- NewGel+ Advanced Medical-Grade C-Section Strip is designed for use on post-operative incision scars from Caesarean-sections (C-Section). The NewGel+ C-Section Strips will help keep your scar flat and soft while easing itching, tightness and pain. The soft silicone will also help cushion your scar and protect it from irritation and sensitivity caused by rubbing against your clothes. Developed by doctors for use in hospitals and clinics, NewGel+ C-Section Strips are specially formulated medical grade silicone gel sheeting, clinically proven to reduce, flatten, fade and smooth scars - both old and new. NewGel+ C-Section Strips work through a combination of occlusion (seals the scar from exposure to air/bacteria), hydration, elevated skin temperature and continuous light pressure. NewGel+ C-Section Strips offer a safe, effective, non-invasive method to manage and improve scars in the abdominal area. They can be worn beneath undergarments. Silicone gel heals scars by increasing hydration of the stratum corneum (the uppermost layer of the skin). This facilitates regulation of fibroblast production and also reduces collagen production. Essentially, this allows skin to “breathe”, thus resulting in a softer and flatter scar. Secondly, certain growth factors stimulate fibroblasts to synthesize more collagen and other growth factors increase the level of collagenases which break down the excess collagen. Silicone gel regulates these growth factors to normalize collagen synthesis, thus preventing scars. In addition to this, silicone gel heals scars by protecting the scarred tissue from bacterial invasion. This is important because bacteria have the ability to induce excessive collagen production in the scar tissue. - Begin using NewGel+ when wound has healed, or sutures have been removed. Do not use on any open wound.
- Remove NewGel+ from the package. If needed, cut and trim NewGel+ so that it extends at least ½ inch (1 centimeter) beyond the area to be treated.
- Keep packaging for storage of the product when not in use. Wash and dry the area being treated every time you apply NewGel+.
- Make sure the scar site is free of any creams, lotions, ointments (including NewGel+E ointment). If NewGel+ sheeting comes in contact with creams, lotions, ointment or perfumes, it can lose adhesiveness.
- Peel off the release liner and apply NewGel+, adhesive side down, directly on the area being treated.
- If the NewGel+ sheet, strip or shape becomes dirty or loses its stickiness, it may be washed gently with tap water and mild hand soap then air-dried before reapplying. The brand recommends washing it every 2-3 days.
- NewGel+ should be replaced if it begins to deteriorate, disintegrate, or will not stick.
